Ninja Gimmick Girl

So, in order to fluff up the character of the girl that will be the mascot of the column, I'm starting a series of poses or situations, which will help me to define her personality and looks.  For the moment the people at OPM are going to keep the first illustration (which I'll post in a few days) as the official background to the column.  This'll give me plenty of time to perfect N...'s appearance :)

New York, New York

These are the walls to my pavillion.  I drew them with colour pencils only, with a slight helping of ballpen :p and next to zero reference.they're fictive representations of an Overwhelming New York, with the buildings distorted by a fish-eye perspective.

SJP

A little something to keep y'all sweet, until I've finished my jury and can post the rest up here.  This is supposed to represent (slightly, no full resemblance was intended) Sarah-Jessica Parker, from a  lower point of view, to make her somewhat more impressive.  She's the character who recieves the guests to my pavillion.  (it's supposed to be about a memory, and mine is of the time, when I was sixteen, that I stayed in New York with my godfather for five weeks, and I landed on the set of Sex and the city and saw SJP. :))

Kirin and Vayu

Normally I was gonna post this when I finished the whole four elements, but I'm too impatient, so her are Wind and Fire already.  The thing in the upper right corner is the tribal mask that represents them.  I already made the Earth one, so I'll get started on her soon (yes, her :p)

There's a story behind them, but I'm not ready to go into that yet.

Girl sets fire

This I made for Officieel Playstation Magazine, not on assignment, but because I wanted to.  She's one of their columnists, and her section is called "Girl sets fire".  So, yeah I thought it was fun to depict her in this manner, with a badass attitude and a flamethrower.  Tarantino style :p

I sent them the illustration btw, and after mailing back and forth some I got an answer from the editor in chief, saying they were starting a new collumn in september, and they thought my illustrations were perfectly suited for it!  Whoopee! (to boast; they are the best-sold playstation magazine in the Benelux :D).  So we'll see where that is gonna end up, fingers crossed!

Messing around with Sarah

I've been adapting my style a bit, trying to opt for a more defined approach, so instead of drawing the whole thing, I built it up from scratch with shapes and facets.  I did not draw a single line in this work, it's completely constructed out of little forms, kinda like vectors.  

Yeah, I just had some fun, trying to caricature Sarah Jessica Parker, messing around with cute little outfits (gosh!) and adding the three other gals to the picture.

The Crowmaster

So this is the guy from the previous sketches, his name is the Crowmaster, and he's the chief of the rebellion squad Carrion.  He commands crows and has an array of other mystical black magic, like marking people as prey for demons of the underworld and stuff.  

I think he's a pretty cool dude.

Water girl sketches

These are the preliminary sketches I made for the water summoning girl.  I had a lot of fun doing these, mostly filling up time in philosophy lessons :).  Somewhere in there are a few concepts for a love interest of hers, some kind of skilled Persian swordsman, which she fights in the beginning, but might start liking through the battles they fight.

Jeez I'm so softhearted, ecchh! 

Water dragon ivocation

A water dragon invoker in action.  Yeah, the dragon took me forever to finish, I spent worlds of time on detail, it was approximately..  er, a BIG size in any case.  Like most of my drawings it's best viewed in fullsize.  To appreciate the sweat, blood and tears :)

Oh yeah, and I suck at backgrounds.  Must work on that.

Earth dragon

This is an earth dragon I drew when I had just installed Photoshop.  One word; painstaking.  It took me a lot of hours with the mouse.  That's a mane of roots around his neck and face.

Maelcity

I wanted to try a slightly subtler approach towards a finished result, so as not to clog the whole drawing by painting it shut.  So I left the design for the city in line.  It's a concept for an underwater/half submerged Atlantean Civilisation... or something.

Fire Invoker

This is the girl from my profile Photo.  Made her from scratch in Photoshop.  Worked long long hours on her, seeing as I didn't have a wacom yet, so with the mouse... Yeah, it was a tortuous road, I can assure you.  She's supposed to be some kind of fire invoker and therefore her hair trasforms into flames.  And she's beckoning (quite proud of the hands if I may say :) ) Because she also represents passion, which is a key feeling in my works most of the time, or what drives them at least.  So she's a kind of muse.
